Artistic Director and Conductor

Derek Maseloff is a conductor, horn player, organist, and composer. He is the Artistic Director and conductor of the Great Falls Philharmonic, the region’s newest professional orchestra.

He was the first principal conductor of the Greenbelt Community Orchestra in Greenbelt, Maryland. Maseloff is a core member of Classically Dope, a Washington, D.C.-based musical experiment featuring rapper Konshens theMC and a cohort of classically trained musicians. In May 2025, Maseloff won a position with the U.S. Army Band as a conductor and band officer.

Maseloff is a passionate advocate for young artists and a believer in the transformative experience of touring. Previously, he served as Director of Artistic Planning for the National Youth Orchestra of China, presenting dozens of concerts on three continents, with highlights at the Berlin Konzerthaus and Carnegie Hall. He also served as Festival Director of a young artists program training singers and orchestral players in the Czech Republic.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CAPS) and a master’s degree in horn performance from the University of Maryland, studying with Gregory Miller and Phil Munds.
